Background information
The first gas company in Riga was established in 1862. In 1962 natural gas pipeline Dashava-Riga was opened. In 1968 Latvia started using natural underground gas-storage facilities at Incukalns. In 1997 gas-measuring station Korneti, intended to serve multiple countries, was completed.
In 1991, the former gas suppliers were merged into a single company - Latvijas Gaze. In 1997 the state sold a part of its holdings to strategic investors - Gazprom and Rhurgas/PreussenElektra. In 2002 it was declared that the privatisation of the company is finished.
The main business of the company is procurement, storage, distribution and sales of natural gas. Company employs 1260 employees.
