Sales of “Riga Black Balsam” Grew by 19% Last Year

Last year the volume of “Riga Black Balsam” and “Riga Black Balsam Currant”
sales on the local and export markets grew by 19% in total, reaching 1 205 932
litres – informs JCS “Latvijas Balzams”.



Year 2012 was especially successful for “Riga Black Balsam Currant”- export
sales grew by more than a half or 61%, but domestic sales increased by 52%
last year. ”Latvijas Balzams” sees the potential to increase the sales of “Riga
Black Balsam” products this year by developing new projects on the local
market, as well as on the markets of Europe and other countries.



“Riga Black Balsam” sales volumes in Latvia have retained this growing tendency
for several years. According to the data of the product wholesaler “SPI
Distribution Latvia”, in 2012 this product’s sale on the local market grew by
14%, in comparison with 2011. A similar tendency was also observed on export
markets, where the demand for “Riga Black Balsam” grew by 9% last year.



“Special recognition among the consumers has been earned by “Riga Black Balsam
Currant”, for which production was started in 2009. Last year the sales results
of this drink both in Latvia and abroad increased by half, and we also started
exporting Black Balsam Currant the USA. Thus, we can state with reasonable
confidence that the 260th jubilee year of “Riga Black Balsam” has passed
honourably,” says JSC “Latvijas Balzams” Brand Director Valters Kaže.



Every fourth bottle of Balsam or 24% of the total production volume, was made
for export last year. “Riga Black Balsam” was available on 22 export markets,
including the Duty Free Zone, with the total export volume reaching 283 743
litres. Last year ”Latvijas balzams” started to export this beverage also to
Croatia and Georgia.



“The consistent increase of the sales figures shows that “Riga Black Balsam”
products have the potential for further growth also this year, therefore we
will actively work on export network development. We are looking with optimism
at the markets of Europe and Central Asia – Poland, Great Britain, Kaliningrad
Region, as well as Kazakhstan, Georgia and Azerbaijan,” states Justs Dzedons,
Export Director of JSC “Latvijas Balzams”



As “Latvijas Balzams” has already informed, in 2012 the 260th Anniversary of
“Riga Black Balsam” was celebrated, within the framework of which targeted
brand communication was performed, addressing new consumer audiences. In honour
of this date, a limited series of “Riga Black Balsam” in special jubilee
packaging was manufactured.
